- I'm trying to lose weight, should I just focus on cardio? While you can lose a lot of weight by doing cardio only, you’re going to lose muscle weight as well if you're not lifting. Lifting weights will increase metabolism and build/retain muscle while burning fat. Click here for more information on cardio workouts.
- How much water should I be drinking each day? This is dependent on your personal bodyweight and how frequently you are working out. Generally 6-8 cups a day should help you stay hydrated and also help you eat less. Dehydration has been known to make you feel hungry, when in reality you just want some extra water. I like to drink water throughout the day. Check out our Nutrition pages .
- I can’t drink as much water as I should / water makes me look fat / bloated. A trick that I do is I will fill a glass with water, chug it real fast, then fill it up again and drink normally from it. The more water you drink the less your body will be able to retain after a while and you will feel and not have that bloated look you are worried about. Keep drinking more water! - You want me to eat twice as much as I normally do a day, how will this make me lose weight? Eating more frequent, but smaller meals helps you maintain a consistent metabolism throughout the day and also helps you avoid overeating. I personally don’t always have time for breakfast in the morning, so I try to eat some type of energy/protein bar. - What is the average amount of weight I can lose a week? A healthy average is between 1.5-2.5 pounds. - I don’t want to get all big and bulky so I'm afraid to lift a lot. / I don’t want to get 'big' while I’m trying to lose weight! This won't happen overnight. It will probably be very difficult for you will to get big and bulky even if that was your main focus. This is especially if you’re trying to lose weight. Bodybuilders train for years and go on extremely strict diets to get to where they are. Go to the gym, lift weights, and monitor your development. I recommend consulting a nutritionist or professional trainer to get recommended diet and fitness plans. See our advanced workouts. - What’s a good workout length? You will definitely want to consult a doctor to define how long you should be working out for. However, a good rule of thumb that I use while doing aerobics is after about 20-40 minutes. This is because it gives your body time to start burning more fat than carbs. - How long should I wait between workouts? This varies with each person and a personal trainer can give you individual guidance. My general rule is that if the muscle feels sore I try to rest. Thankfully your abs are some of the fastest recovering muscles you have, so you can work towards that flat stomach on a regular basis. -I work out all the time but I just can’t seem to lose the weight… Chances are you need to make some changes to your diet and eating habits.
